FOREST AND HABITAT MANAGEMENT
Glenside has developed more than 180 forest and habitat management plans for private landowners throughout Ontario. The following examples illustrate the scope and tasks associated with a couple of these projects:
Harcourt Park Managed Forest Plan
Harcourt Park Inc.
- Conducted comprehensive inventory of 6000 acre property. Inventory included tree species composition, basal area, tree height, wildlife habitat features, vascular plants and species at risk;
- Consulted with Board members to define management objectives and activities of interest, and review opportunities and constraints;
- Compartmentalized forests and habitats based on common functions and features;
- Developed geodatabase of compartments and features to manage spatial data and analyze compartment representation;
- Developed comprehensive management plan for a 20 year term with detailed activites for a 10 year term;
- Approved the plan for the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP).
Dahl Forest Management Plan
Haliburton Highlands Land Trust
- Developed management strategy for enhancing habitats and biodiversity through the conversion of plantations to tolerant hardwood forests. Strategy included gap creation to promote regeneration of tolerant and mid-tolerant hardwood species;
- Identified open areas suitable for species at risk and developed strategy to maintain associated biodiversity.
- Consulted with Board members to define management objectives and activities of interest, and review opportunities and constraints;
- Developed comprehensive management plan for a 20 year term with detailed activites for a 10 year term;
- Approved the plan for the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP).
